That’s a wrap on 2021!
Well, October has been a bit of a blur… with the pandemic delaying the start of race season in all cycling disciplines, a ton o’races have been crammed into October, so we are a little behind in keeping everyone up to date on the Pack’s results.
But the good news is that “a little behind” only describes our reporting, and NOT the race performance of our intrepid race team. Quite the contrary – the Dirt Pups have been putting the hurt on everyone in sight on the trails and between the tape.
Kitchener-Waterloo Cyclocross (KWCX)/OCUP No. 4 – October 24, 2021
The Waterloo Cycling Club always put on a great event and the KWCX was no exception. We had a nice warm day for this race, although the rain the day before made for some shenanigans out on the course, expecially as competitors rode up and down the ski hill at Bingeman’s park three times a lap, including a brutal grind up the notorious Hart Hill, named for our late friend and pack member Steve Hart. The Pack was out in force for this one:
Christos Adamidis, 7th Master 3 Men
Tim Griffin, 28th, Master 3 Men
Barry Cox, 37th, Master 3 Men
Rob MacEwen, 38th, Master 3 Men
Kathleen MacEwen, 4th, Master B Women
Mark Brusso, 3rd, Master 1 Men
Substance Projects Marathon Cup 3: Sausage Suit Individual Time Trial (8x) – October 30, 2021
Meanwhile on the trails, the Dirt Pups were out in force at Mansfield Outdoor Centre. Although there was a lot of rain in the 24 hours before the race, the trails held up beautifully and competitors were rewarded with either 15k or 45k of buttery-smooth singletrack….with a sting in the tail.
Brett Kane, 5th, Men’s 35-50 age group, 15km distance
Doris Xaioting Liu, 4th, women’s 35-50 age group, 45 km distance (despite having to run most of the last lap because of a busted freehub)
Andy McKean, 7th, Master Men (Andy is also the Marathon Series winner for Master men, thus proving that showing up is indeed half the battle….)
Barry Cox, 3rd, Single Speed Open
Ontario Cyclocross Provincial Championships – October 31, 2021
This is the one for all the marbles and the coveted title of Provincial Cyclocross Champion. Competitors were treated to Proper Cyclocross Conditions, due to a biblical amount of rain falling in the 24 hours before the event. Mud tires, rubber boots and a strong bike-handling game were prerequisites for this one, but a number of LapDogs were up to the challenge…
Alex Sanchez, 7th, master B Men
Sol Amos, 20th, Master B Men
Mark Brusso, 3rd, Master A Men
Kathleen MacEwen, 7th, Master B Women
Thanks to everyone who came out and raced cross country mountainbike, fatbike, gravel, track, road, cyclocross and virtual on behalf of the pack this year. We’ve had a great group of competitors out, and even better sponsors.
If you are reading this and thinking, “do I have what it takes to #racewiththepack?”, well, you probably do.
Stay tuned for an announcement regarding participating in the LDCC 2022 Race Team Program. And keep in mind, the Paris to Ancaster is just 5 months away… we’ll see you on the start line.
