South Carolina "Spring Training" Road Trip 2025

March 15th to 22nd 2025

Plans are already in the works for this year’s LDCC "Training Camp" in South Carolina. For 2025, we're looking at offering options for both Road and MTB as well as more structured training for those who are looking at taking advantage of the amazing terrain (put your climbing legs on).

Our base camp at Table Rock State Park is ideally situated in an area that offers fantastic opportunities for amazing rides... everything from gently rolling terrain down quiet country roads to leg-burning climbs and screamingly fast descents..., no matter what your riding ability is, you’ll be able to get in a wide variety of road rides.  The amazing mountain bike trail systems of Dupont and Pisgah forests nearby, plus epic gravel/forest roads through the mountains, give further options if pavement alone is not entertaining enough for you (excellent rental bikes available in Brevard, NC).

Why South Carolina? Three main reasons…

The terrain: Nothing in Ontario comes close to the climbs, lookouts, and descents through the Blue Ridge Mountains. The roads are generally in excellent condition, and drivers tend to be very respectful and courteous. Most of the roads we use are very lightly trafficked. The MTB riding is highly varied from dirt & roots, to chunky descents, to epic slick rock. Some of the MTB descents are so long you may need to rest one or more times on the way down.

The weather: South Carolina is at least one month ahead of Toronto for Spring temperatures — in years past we have frequently worn summer kit mid-March. Leaves and flowers are sprouting everywhere. That said, come prepared and don’t leave your cold weather gear at home!

The camaraderie: New to the club? We can’t wait to get to know you in this incredible environment! The week tends to be very social, with one or more campfire nights, games nights, “aprés ride” at local brewpubs, “rest day” hikes, etc. Having an entire week set aside for riding with friends is a magical experience.

Please note that the entire trip is organized at cost by volunteers to keep prices as accessible as possible to all club members. If you are OK with sleeping on a sofa bed, bringing food from home, and carpooling, it’s possible to keep under a $1000 CAD budget for the entire week.

Price for the Cabins, based on 7 nights

• Bedroom: $900 CDN (50% Deposit required)

• Sofa bed: $450 CDN (50% Deposit required)

The Table Rock cabins are all very comfortable and clean with modern amenities, full kitchens, porches, fireplaces and outdoor fire pits, wifi, renovated within in the last few years. At the current time we have 8 cabins pre-booked, consisting of the following:

• 14 Bedrooms

• 5 Pullouts

A deposit will secure your spot(s): $450 CDN per bedroom, $225 CDN per sofa bed or bunk.  Refundable (minus a $20 fee) up to February 1, 2025.  Later cancelations up to March 1st 2025 may receive a partial refund depending on the situation. Cancellations made 15-29 day prior will forfeit the 1st night's stay; 14 or less will forfeit all deposit funds, no refund.

Note that pets are not allowed in the cabins, but there are serviced campsites a short stroll through the woods where they are allowed - some of our #vanlife friends are seriously considering this option.

Participants in the organized rides must be 2025 LDCC (or other OC club) Members or hold a 2025 OC/CC or UCI Race License or citizen permit.
