We are now two thirds of the way through the Road & MTB season and the 'Dogs are still raking up lots of point in the OCA's Club Challenge. As of July 31st, 2010, your LapDogs are still positioned 4th overall out of 109 clubs. This is based upon the combined results of all who have participated in this year's Mountain Bike and Road Provincial O'Cups.

  • LapDogs MTB Team, 1321 points
  • LapDogs Road Team, 329 points

Once again, well done to all who have worked so hard to fly the colours in 2010. With the season that we've had so far this is going down as our most successful ever.... and just wait to see what happens once the Cyclocross Series begins in the Fall.

Congratulations to Derek Hardinge for a fantastic performance at the Tour of the Catskills Stage Race. Derek was entered in the the Cat 3 race, which had 68 starters.  This event is a three day race, with a 4.5 km uphill time trial on day 1, an 80km road race on day 2, and a 90 km road race on day 3. Derek finished 11th in the prologue, 3rd on day 2, and 12th on day 3.
In the King of the Mountain [KOM] competition, Derek was first across the top 3 out of the 4 times, resulting in his taking of the KOM Jersey.
Together with this first place in the KOM competition, Derek finished 6th overall in the GC [General Classification].
Some Race Highlights include:
Day 2 Derek getting into a 4 man break that went clear in the first few kms and stayed away until the first KOM climb.  He was eventually able to drop the rest of the group on the climb and then soloed it to the next KOM point gabbing the climber's KOM jersey.
Day 3 featured the Devil's Kitchen climb, which was famously used in the Tour DuPont in the early nineties.  It's 5km long at an average of 14% and a max grade of 28%.  According to Derek, going up at race pace was the most painful experience he's ever experienced

We are very pleased to announce that our very own Derek "KOM" Hardinge recently competed in the Whiteface Mountain Hill Climb were he finished an incredible 4th in his category and 8th overall.
This is a fantastic accomplishment considering that we LapDogs are are very much flat-land cyclists. We just don't have anywhere to climb in Southern Ontario.
Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race is 8 miles on a 8% Grade Course. The Climb is 3,500' up Scenic Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway. New York's 5th highest peak with 360° panoramic views of the Adirondacks, New England, Vermont and Montreal.

As of October 25th, the LapDogs Cycling Club has moved into 5th Place out of 128 Clubs in the Ontario Cycling Association's Club Challenge. Very impressive for our second season of racing.

Congratulations and well done to all who race the Club's colours.

And, given the recent success on the Cyclo-cross circuit, we may soon be chasing down 4th place. Could 3rd place be in our future?
